Hundreds of children in the Binghamton area gathered at the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier October 3rd to join over 2 million people across the country to read Lady Bug Girl and the Bug Squad in support of Jumpstart's mission to work toward the day that every child enters school prepared to succeed.

In addition to the effort to break the word record for reading the same book on the same day, children and families were treated to activities including a lady bug release, face painting, crafts and music.

Penguin Group USA in Kirkwood donated over 1,200 books and co-sponsored the event with Building Bright Futures for Broome, the Discovery Center, United Way of Broome County and Four County Library System.
