More people may be able to make it to Broome County government public hearings in the future without having to skip out of work.

Legislation is being introduced to make sure all public hearings held by the County Legislature, County Executive or any agency or department of Broome County government would start no earlier than 5 p.m.

The measure is being introduced by Legislature Majority Leader Dan Reynolds, and Legislators Steve Flagg and Kelly Wildoner.

A few other legislators have already said they support the idea.

For years, many residents have complained that they would like to have more say in County government, but were unable to go to meetings that were scheduled for 4 in the afternoon or earlier.
