Propane Fracking Gains Support in Tioga County

The Tioga County Legislature is giving its support to a proposal to use propane fracking to extract natural gas at a farm in the Town of Barton.

The Snyder Farm Group has applied for a permit from New York State to develop a gas well, using a fracking method that, developers say, is not included in the state-wide ban on fracking.

Five county legislators have voted to pass a resolution supporting the project while one abstained.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has not set a deadline for making a decision on the Snyder Farm application.
