Thousands of New York State Electric and Gas customers have been affected by last night’s strong winds and heavy rain.

NYSEG reported over 15,800 customers in Broome County without power at 4:30 this morning and did not offer an estimated time of the restoration of service.

Traffic signals in many communities were still out early today.  Binghamton University was among parts of Vestal dumped in the dark last night.

A State of Emergency was issued in Broome County shortly before 10 p.m. Broome County Emergency Services officials say they have not been told when the State of Emergency will expire.

Trees and branches have been reported down throughout the area and residents who need to go out should be cautious about debris on roadways.
