Several hundred NYSEG customers in Vestal were without electric service following a truck crash near the Binghamton University campus.

A trash truck operated by Taylor Garbage Service of Vestal overturned at the intersection of Route 434 and Bunn Hill Road at about 1:20 p.m.

No injuries were reported in the crash but a utility pole on the south side of the Vestal Parkway was damaged by the vehicle.

A NYSEG crew shut off power around 2 o'clock as workers prepared to removed the wrecked truck.

Electric service was interrupted on the Binghamton University campus for a short time. NYSEG reported 495 customers near the crash scene lost electricity while repair work was being done.

Several traffic signals were out of service because of the power disruption. Town police officers and fire police were deployed to affected intersections to direct traffic.
