Binghamton public works crew have been dispatched repeatedly to some of the city's most-traveled streets to fill potholes in recent weeks. But despite the ongoing efforts, some drivers say conditions are unacceptable.

Portions of Prospect Street have generated a large number of pothole-related complaints over the past two winter driving seasons.

Some of the problems have been linked to the ongoing Prospect Mountain Project at the Interstate 81-Route 17 interchange.

Emergency repaving was done in January of last year on the eastern section of Prospect Street approaching Front Street.

No winter repaving was ordered this year but city workers have been patching potholes as the weather permits.

Some drivers say they want more done to address dangerous conditions, especially near Woodrow Wilson Elementary School.

On Monday afternoon, motorists slowed down and swerved in efforts to prevent vehicle damage as they passed through the school zone.

Pothole problems on Prospect Street and throughout the region are expected to worsen this week as pavement thawing occurs during the day and with refreezing overnight.
