The Binghamton Rumble Ponies downed the Trenton Thunder 4-1 Wednesday night in the opening game of their best-of-five Eastern Division Championship Series at NYSEG Stadium.  Corey Oswalt was outstanding in his starting assignment as he went seven innings, gave up five hits and yielded the Thunder's lone run.  He retired 17 of the last 19 batters he faced.

Peter Alonso and Matt Oberste each smacked two-run doubles to key the Binghamton offense. Tim Peterson worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning and Tyler Bashlor worked out of a ninth inning jam to strike out the side and close the door on the Thunder.

The second game in the series is set for tonight (Thursday) at NYSEG Stadium beginning at 6:35 PM (air at 6:20 on News Radio 1290 WNBF).  Ricky Knapp makes the start on the mound for Binghamton while Brody Koerner gets the ball for Trenton.

The series moves to Trenton for game three on Friday night.  If needed game four will be Saturday night in Trenton and if a fifth game is needed the teams would meet on Sunday night in Trenton.
