Traffic will be greatly impacted April 4 on Main Street in Johnson City near Wilson Hospital as mourners gather for the funeral of Johnson City Police Officer David Smith.

Johnson City Police advise access to Wilson Hospital and other businesses in that area will be from Floral Avenue and Baldwin Street from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Several street closures and detours are anticipated and motorists are asked to avoid the downtown area until mid afternoon.

Smith’s funeral will be televised on Time Warner Cable and WBNG TV in  Binghamton.

The burial at Chenango Valley Cemetery following the funeral is semi-private, restricted to family and members of local law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, a bank account has been set up in memory of slain Johnson City Police Officer David Smith.

Contributions for the Smith family can be directed to the Horizon’s Federal Credit Union at 120 Main Street in the City of Binghamton.

Police caution that if anyone solicits money from residents for the account, local police should immediately be notified.
