A man who stole a pickup truck and led police on a high-speed chase into Binghamton remains at large.

Authorities say the pursuit started after a Hinmans Corners man reported someone had stolen a pickup truck from his home on Russell Road.

A Broome County sheriff's deputy was sent to the area at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday. As he was heading to the residence, he spotted the missing white 2015 Toyota Tundra truck turning onto Front Street from Fuller Road.

The deputy tried to stop the vehicle but it continued south on Front Street into the city of Binghamton.

The truck raced through the Prospect Mountain construction zone, kicking up dirt and dust.

The vehicle then turned onto Winding Way and sped around a residential neighborhood in the First Ward.

Police found the abandoned truck a few minutes later on Spring Forest Avenue. The suspect's cell phone was found in the vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies were assisted by state troopers and Binghamton police in searching the neighborhood for about two hours. A canine unit was used in the unsuccessful effort to find the thief.

The pickup truck sustained minor damage during the pursuit. No injuries were reported.
