Authorities have publicly identified the 11-year-old Johnson City child whose death has been described as "suspicious."

Investigators say the boy was Jerome Smith of Burbank Avenue on the village's South Side.

Police were called to the home of the fifth-grade boy Saturday afternoon.

In a brief statement released Thursday afternoon, Police Chief Brent Dodge said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death is "still ongoing."

Although an autopsy was performed early this week at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, police have not revealed a suspected cause of death.

Detectives are continuing to await results of toxicology tests. Those findings may not be available for several days.

Johnson City School District officials have said counselors were being provided to students in the aftermath of the boy's death.
