Shuttle service is being provided for the calling hours in Port Dickinson today and the funeral in Johnson City tomorrow for Officer David Smith, who was killed in the line of duty Monday across from Wilson Hospital.

The Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. today at William Chase Funeral Home.

Parking is available at Port Dickinson Park.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church with parking at the former BAE Systems facility on Main Street in Westover.

Volunteers spent much of the day yesterday preparing the church for the funeral service that is expected to draw hundreds of mourners.

Smith was a member of the Methodist church at the corner of Main and Baldwin Streets.

Officials have said motorists not attending the funeral should also expect street closures in the area around the iconic church across from the Johnson City Post Office.

The public will be allowed into the church for the funeral as space allows. The service will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable and WNBG TV, Channel 12.

Smith was shot to death Monday as he responded to a call about a disturbance at Southern Tier Imaging on Harrison Street.

An MRI technician attacked Smith as he was attempted to get out of his squad car shortly after 7 a.m. and gained possession of the officer’s weapon, shooting him twice.

43 year old James Clark of Greene was then fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with another village police officer.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
