Police in Syracuse are investigating a shooting that has left five people injured September 20.

The Associated Press and several media outlets in central New York have been covering the developments after the first reports of shots fired on Midland Avenue at 9 p.m. at what was said to have been a “celebration of life” gathering for a person who had recently died of cancer.

There has been no official word on the condition of the victims, who are said to range in age from eight to 35 years old, but there was indication that all are expected to survive.

Meanwhile, while events were unfolding on Midland Avenue, a 14 year old girl was reportedly shot and wounded on nearby Furman Street.  It’s not known if the incidents are related.

At last report, there were no fatalities and no suspects identified.
