The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force has been cracking down on heroin users and dealers in a two day drug sweep.

Officials say 16 people have been arrested and charged with close to three dozen counts.

97 envelopes of heroin were seized along with over $11,000.

Police say several of the arrests resulted in development of additional information about other unresolved crimes.

Officials say the initiative was launched following a recent increase in property crimes, burglaries and larcenies in the City of Binghamton, along with an upswing in heroin possession and overdose cases in Broome County.
