Broome County sheriff's deputies were called after a man allegedly fondled his genital area in front of a 16-year-old boy in a garage at a Jonas Lane residence.

Investigators say the boy left the garage and walked up the street when he was approached by the same man who was then in a vehicle. The man is said to have asked the boy if he wanted to engage in oral sex.

According to the sheriff's office, the boy told the man to meet him at a nearby spot on Grandview Place. The boy then summoned assistance from a relative who confronted the man.

The family member and neighbors blocked the man's vehicle to prevent him from leaving the area before deputies arrived.

Authorities say 41-year-old Jason Monahan of Carol Court, Endwell, was charged with attempted criminal sexual act and public lewdness. He also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Monahan was arraigned in Chenango town court and released on his own recognizance.

Investigators say the teen made a video recording of the incident that happened in the garage.
