Phone Scam Warning in the Southern Tier

Tioga County Sheriff’s Officials are issuing a warning about recent reports of a phone scam.

The authorities say the caller claims to be a Captain in the Las Vegas Police Department who has arrested a family member of the intended victim.

The scammer then tries to get the recipient of the call to send money to secure the release of the family member.

Officials say do not send any money but get detailed information as to how they want the money transferred and a contact number to advise when they get the money.  Then, call the authorities and give them the information.
