Troopers accused of excessive force in the arrest of a Vestal man, whose mug shot shows him with serious injuries to his face, have been cleared.

Robert Leone said he was brutally beaten by five Pennsylvania State Police officers following a low-speed chase in Bradford County in March of 2010.

A federal jury May 18 determined the troopers did not use excessive force.

Leone was pulled over by the state police from the Towanda barracks and was seen on footage from a police dash camera struggling with officers before troopers are seen striking the then 31 year old.

Authorities said Leone had a large amount of amphetamines in his system.  His family had said the man was on prescription medication due to mental health issues.

Leone was convicted two years ago of assault, fleeing police and resisting arrest.

He was released after serving a jail sentence
