After announcing early this year that the local warehouse for Penguin Random House would be closing, the company has now officially filed notices with the New York State Department of Labor that it will be laying off 286 workers from the distribution facility in Kirkwood.

Penguin Random House has filed the required WARN notice with the state.

The company said in February that it was cutting costs by consolidating operations into two facilities, one in Westminster, Maryland and the other in Crawford, Indiana.

The Kirkwood layoffs are to take place between January 31 and September 30, which is the scheduled last day of operation.
