On Friday night the Binghamton Mets captured their third Eastern League Championship as they defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-1 at NYSEG Stadium.  A big reason for the B-Mets success can be attributed to their manager Pedro Lopez.  In his third season as B-Mets manager he led the team to a championship after winning the Eastern Division regular season crown last year.

This season's team went 83-59 during the regular season.  Last year the B-Mets won 86 games on the way to a first-place regular season finish but were swept by the Trenton Thunder in the Eastern Division Championship series.  The 86 wins was a franchise record and earned Lopez Eastern League Manager of the Year honors.

This year under the leadership of Lopez the B-Mets took their play to the next level and an Eastern League crown.  Lopez held the club together during numerous pitching call-ups to Triple-A Las Vegas from Binghamton and the loss of standout Dilson Herrera who went directly to the New York Mets.  His departure set the stage for a six-game losing streak by the B-Mets to close out the regular campaign.  He was able to right the ship and steer his team to wins over Portland and Richmond to clinch the Eastern League Championship. Look for Lopez to win his second consecutive Manager of the Year honors.
