A Johnson City woman was seriously hurt when she was hit by a vehicle as she crossed State Street in downtown Binghamton.

Authorities say the incident happened just before 1 p.m. May 8 south of City Hall.

Police say the 25-year-old pedestrian is believed to have been crossing from the east side of State Street when she was struck by the car.

Officials say the injured woman was unconscious when she was transported from the scene by ambulance. She apparently sustained severe head trauma and was undergoing surgery at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

The 68-year-old Binghamton woman who was driving the car was not hurt. Police say she was issued a ticket for failure to use due care for a pedestrian.

The car's windshield was broken as a result of the impact of the pedestrian striking the vehicle.

State Street heading into downtown Binghamton was closed for about 90 minutes after the collision.
