Former New York governor David Paterson says he's "a fan" of U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's efforts to investigate corruption in state government but he's concerned about some of the prosecutor's actions.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Friday, Paterson noted Bharara had been admonished by a federal judge in connection with a "media blitz" that followed the arrest of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

Paterson, who currently is the state Democratic Party chairman, said he doesn't know "where the line is for legal action to be taken against" Bharara. But, he said, "the line of respect, I think he went over that line."

Paterson said "you've got to be scrupulously careful not to go over that line" when trying to go after allegations of public corruption.

Paterson became governor on March 17, 2008, after Eliot Spitzer stepped down following a prostitution scandal.

In Friday's interview, Paterson discussed other issues, including Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and what he expects might happen as both major parties move toward selecting their nominees in the next several months.
