A Binghamton man who is on parole has been arrested in connection with a stabbing on the city's East Side.

Authorities say 19-year-old Darren Webster has been charged with first-degree assault.

Investigators say Webster is suspected of stabbing a 20-year-old man in the abdomen. The attack occurred near the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Robinson Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Police received several calls reporting the stabbing. The injured man was found near the pharmacy's "drive-thru" window off Whitney Avenue. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of what were described as serious injuries.

Detectives say Webster had been released on parole by the state. He was being held in the Binghamton police lockup pending arraignment in city court.
