An Endicott man, posing as a military veteran, is being charged with false personation after Broome County Sheriff’s officials say they found him panhandling at the corner of East Main Street and North Street.

Officials say 33 year old Clinton Taylor was dressed in camouflage and held a sign begging for money or work, claiming to be a vet.

Taylor said the government was not caring for him or his family.

Authorities say Taylor gave a false name and date of birth but later admitted he was a heroin addict and had never been in the military.

He told investigators he was impersonating a veteran in the hopes of getting money from residents out of sympathy for military veterans.

He was ordered to appear in Town of Union Court at a later date.
