The latest winter storm to hit the Northeast had PennDOT officials again reducing speed limits on some major highways January 24. The restrictions were lifted by the next day

While New York State and a portion of Northeast Pennsylvania were expecting little accumulation from the Nor'Easter, areas to the south and east were expecting several inches of snow and mixed precipitation.

PennDOT temporarily reduced the speed to 45 mph on Interstate 80, Interstate 81, Interstate 84 and Interstate 380.

During winter weather, PennDOT officials recommend not traveling.

Motorists can check conditions on Pennsylvania roadways, including color-coded winter conditions at www.511PA.com.

More winter driving tips: leave plenty of space between vehicles and especially while driving near plow trucks.  Motorists should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading road treatment materials.

It's a good idea as well to have an emergency kit in your vehicle including non-perishable, easily accessible food, water, blanket, small shovel and extra warm clothes.
