Work is continuing on a 62-unit apartment project for seniors in Tioga County.

Construction on the Owego Gardens complex on the South Side of the village began last fall.

The project is being built just south of Route 434 on an elevated site above the Susquehanna River.

Rochester-based Home Leasing has reported strong interest in the complex. The company operates several other similar projects in New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Home Leasing expects the first residents will be able to move in to the Owego apartments early next year.

The $12.5 million project is receiving state financial support as part of the recovery effort following the massive flooding of 2011.

The one- and two-bedroom apartments will be geared to residents over the age of 55.
