Several events are planned in conjunction with Memorial Day in Tioga County.

The Owego Memorial Day parade will be held in the village next Monday. It's scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. at the police station on Temple Street. The parade will proceed on downtown Owego streets and conclude at the Tioga County Veterans Memorial in Court House Square.

A Service of Remembrance at the memorial is to start at 11:00 a.m.

Students from Saint Patrick's School will hold a remembrance program Tuesday morning. They plan to assemble at Saint Patrick's Cemetery on Route 17C, west of Owego.

The students are to circle the grave of Army Specialist Charles Bilbrey Jr., who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq on July 26, 2007. His mother, Barbara Bilbrey, will discuss the meaning of "Memorial" as she recalls the life of her son.

A ceremony at Riverside Cemetery on Marshland Road in Apalachin is planned for Wednesday afternoon. The ceremony by Apalachin Girl Scout Troop 425 is scheduled to start at 1:00. The Girl Scouts will honor more than 200 veterans by placing new American flags in front of their headstones.
