Owego Police Chief Vinti Retires From Department
After more than three decades of law enforcement work, Owego Police Chief Karen Vinti has retired.
Vinti's retirement was effective on Sunday. She first began working for the Owego Police Department in 1985. She left the agency for awhile and worked part-time for the Tioga County Sheriff's Office. She returned to the village police to work as a school resource officer.
Vinti said as the Owego police chief, she updated the department's policies and procedures.
Vinti has not announced her post-retirement plans other than to say that she intends to stay in Owego.
Vinti's departure comes as the village police department faces additional cuts and an uncertain future. The Owego village board has discussed plans to make the police chief's job a part-time position.
Some Owego residents are concerned that there may be a renewed effort to shut down the police department.
