Officials in the Owego Apalachin School District say things are on schedule with the demolition of the flood-ravaged Owego Elementary School.

Project Manager, Paul Kirk says hazardous materials should be removed from the building in a matter of days. Crews from Gorick Construction were due to move to the front portion of the building this week.

As the crews move around the various wings and sections of the structure, the building is rapidly coming down piece by piece.  The final areas to be demolished will be the gym and boiler room.

The work is still expected to take several weeks before the site will be clear for the construction of a new school, located above the flood plain.

Photos of the progress are posted on the Owego Apalachin School District website at www.oacsd.org.
