The Owego Apalachin School District is adding text messages to its list of ways to contact parents, guardians, faculty and staff.

Starting May 1 at around 6 p.m., those with text-capable phone numbers on file with the district, will get a text inviting them to opt-in to receive important messages from the school. Those messages may include closings & delays, events, and other district information.

The message will contain the short code: 67587, which is SchoolMessenger and will read “Owego Apalachin Central School District messages.  Reply Y to confirm, HELP 4 info. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. Schooolmessenger.com/tm”

Residents who want to stop receiving texts at any time can text STOP to 67587.

Residents will have to reply “Y” in order to subscribe.  People who don’t get the message don’t have their text capable phone number on file and could contact the district registrar to sign in. Contact Jennifer Chandler via phone at 687-7301, extension 1070 or chandlerj@oacsd.org.

District officials say it will take 24 hours for new numbers to sync with the messenger.
