The Associate Superintendent of the Owego Apalachin School District is days away from retirement.

Bernard, 'Bernie' Dolan Jr. has been with the district for close to four years, serving in many capacities. He began as a third grade teacher in 1973 and became high school assistant principal in 1989.  Dolan was the OFA Assistant Varsity football coach from 1976-1989.

Dolan says he's seen a lot of changes over his four decades in education including better inclusion of students with special needs , collaborative teaching and, of course, rapidly advancing technology.

Dolan says he sees a lot of challenges for education in the future, including developing a better understanding of how the human brain works so educators can better understand how children learn.

Dolan's official retirement date is June 30.
