Broome County officials say there has been an increase in reports of drug overdoses between January 20-24.

Officials have not said what they believe has contributed to that increase as the county has been showing a steady decrease in the number of overdose deaths over the past couple of years.

Meanwhile, training in the use of the overdose reversal drug Narcan is being held January 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Addiction Center of Broome County at 447 West State Street, Binghamton.

Residents can stop by anytime during the training hours and receive a free Narcan kit and learn about overdose prevention and how to correctly administer Narcan.

Community members can also visit their local pharmacy and use the Naloxone Co-payment Assistance Program with no prescription needed from a provider.

Narcan kits and education are also available at the Addiction Center, Southern Tier AIDS Program and TruthPharm.  Contact those agencies for their hours.

Anyone at the scene of an overdose should call 911.
