A regional farmers market planned for the Binghamton area is expected to cost more than $500,000 to develop.

The market site is to be built at Broome County's Otsiningo Park in the town of Dickinson.

A $400,000 state grant is to be used to support the Southern Tier Regional Farmers Market. Another $100,000 grant from a "healthy food" program also will help finance the project.

The Broome County Industrial Development Agency also is expected to provide some funding.

Plans call for the market to include three dozen vendor spaces, along with a store and kitchen space.

The venue is to be open year-round.

Construction on the farmers market is scheduled to start in January.

A seasonal market that's operated in an Otsiningo parking lot is to move to the new facility when construction is finished.
