A local spiedie sauce maker says he plans to contest a ruling after the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration handed out 12 citations and fines for an accident at the Salamida Johnson City plant last fall in which a worker was overcome by fumes while cleaning a 3,000 gallon vinegar vat that had three inches of vinegar still in it.

According to police, the 33 year old worker slipped off the ladder when he was overcome by fumes at 8:49 a.m. September 28 at the facility on Diment Street.  He was taken to Wilson Hospital where he was hospitalized for five days.

Salamida faces $79,600 in possible fines. Company President Rob Salamida says OSHA got a lot of information wrong, so he plans to contest.
