Opening Delayed For Owego’s Hickories Park
Construction projects at Hickories Park in the town of Owego were expected to be finished by now. The park was scheduled to open next Monday.
But town officials say the opening has been delayed by at least two weeks. The revised target date is April 28.
Officials say the severe weather conditions in recent weeks delayed completion of the planned work.
One of the biggest projects underway at the park is the construction of a permanent entrance to replace a temporary entrance built after the 2011 flood.
The park closed in early September so work on the entrance and other projects could get underway.
Town supervisor Donald Castellucci has said electric service upgrades in the park have been completed.
Preliminary work for a planned dog park facility at the Hickories has been done. Supporters of the dog park say they expect it could open sometime this summer.
Updates on the Hickories Park projects may be found at the town of Owego website.
