The Oneida Indian Nation, which is supporting Tioga Down’s plans to develop a full casino resort in the Town of Nichols, is doing an on-air barrage against another development recommended for a New York State casino license.

The Native Americans, who operate their own casinos, have a media campaign blasting the planned Lago Resort in Tyre, pointing out what they say are fatal flaws in not only the Finger Lakes development but in the developer’s character.

The Nation says the location of the Lago development will kill jobs in other nearby gaming facilities like its Turning Stone Casino and Yellow Brick Road Casino, the Vernon Downs horse track and Tioga Downs’ racino.

Lago spokesman Steve Greenberg says the new development is projected to create thousands of construction and permanent jobs and has the overwhelming support of the residents of Seneca County.

The Tyre Town Board is going over final site plans.

The project has been stalled for weeks after questions were raised about the thoroughness of environmental and economic impact filings.
