One injury is reported in connection with a huge, two-alarm fire at an apartment building at Mather and Main Streets in the City of Binghamton.

The blaze was reported at 3:51 a.m. May 9 at the large apartment house at 1 Mather Street and 35 residents were evacuated.  A neighboring apartment building was also evacuated but left largely undamaged.

Firefighters from Binghamton, Johnson City and Vestal were ordered to evacuate the building and begin an exterior assault at 5:07 and flames extended through the roof of the building.

Most fire companies remained on the scene through mid-morning with Binghamton firefighters remaining to put out flare-ups and conduct clean up operations into the afternoon.

Motorists were detoured around the area for hours.
