Residents who missed dropping off old, unwanted or unused medication during the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency Take Back initiative can still safely dispose of the drugs.

The Broome County Sheriff's office will accept medicines, emptied in to zip top bag in the lobby at the Administration Building behind Broome Community College on Lt. VanWinkle Drive weekdays from 7:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Syringes or other sharps can not be accepted.

Residents in Chenango County can dispose of medications at the sheriff's office Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Officials are collecting the medications so they can be disposed of properly, avoiding materials from leaching into ground water or municipal water supplies.
