Local officials are reacting to the ambush shooting of Police in Dallas during a peaceful protest Thursday, July 7.

While New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement July 8 at a breast cancer awareness motorcycle ride condemning the killing of the five officers by a sniper and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf ordered Keystone State flags flown at half-mast, there has also been local reaction.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David said “This type of violence against police officers is shocking and despicable. It reminds us of the sacrifices made by those in law enforcement to keep us safe.”

David spoke to members of the Binghamton Police during roll call July 8 and told them to stay safe and know the City supports them.

The Mayor also pointed to the City’s efforts to enhance community-based policing over the past two years.
