New York State Troopers are credited with quickly helping at the scene of the spectacular barn fire in the Town of Nichols earlier this month.

Officials say Investigators William Dengler and Norman O’Neil were on their way back to their barracks April 2 when they heard the call about the fire on River Road, next to Route 17 and responded.

The pair pulled over and jumped a fence to get to the building where a distraught woman was waving her arms.

The Investigators were the first responders to get to the scene at that time.

Off-duty Trooper David Kemp of Endwell, who previously was a volunteer firefighter, also arrived to help until The Nichols fire truck and other crews arrived.

There were no injuries and all of the horses were out of the barn when the fire broke out.
