Norwich Woman Tries to Outrun Deputies

Chenango County Sheriff's officials say a Norwich woman is charged with aggravated drunk driving and other counts after she was seen speeding on State Highway 8 in the Town of Guilford and tried to outrun deputies.

The Sheriff's office says a deputy saw 31 year old Elizabeth Polasik traveling south at an unsafe speed last week.

The deputy activated the squad car's emergency lights and siren, but Polasik accelerated and fled.  The chase was joined by another sheriff's officer and two New York State Troopers.

The woman finally stopped a short time later on State Hwy. 8 and was taken into custody without further incident.

Officials say during the investigation, they found the woman intoxicated, with a blood alcohol content at more than 3 times the legal limit.  She was also reportedly in possession of morphine pills.

Polasik was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $8,000 bail.
