Norwich Teen Critically Hurt in Car-Truck Crash

A 19-year-old Norwich woman sustained serious injuries when the car she was driving was struck by a large truck in Chenango County.

Authorities say Breanna Christian was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City after the crash. She was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon.

According to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, Christian was driving a 2013 Hyundai northbound on King Road in the Town of Smithville around 6:45 a.m.

Investigators say the car failed to stop at a stop sign on County Road 3. A 2005 Mack dump truck slammed into the car. After striking the vehicle, the dump truck overturned and spilled its load.

The truck driver, 47-year-old Brad Sparling of Walton, was treated at Wilson for minor injuries.

Workers from the Chenango County highway were called to clean up the scene of the crash.
