Binghamton fire officials say a South Side man may be lucky to have only suffered some smoke inhalation during a fire at Earle Drive February 4 since the home did not have any working smoke detectors.

Firefighters had the blaze under control about an hour after it was called in at 6:39 a.m. and the main fire damage was reported to be to the living room area.  There was some smoke damage, however to the second floor as well.

A 57 year old man was home alone at the time the fire broke out.

He was taken to the hospital for evaluation but was not seriously hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
