Almost two years after being ripped apart by the flooding from Tropical Storm Lee, Nichols' historic Kirby Park officially reopens.

A parade, ribbon cutting, chicken barbeque and the first game of the Nichols Little League celebrate the recovery of the park.

Officials say residents pitched in to help restore facilities. Over $153,000 was directed to park recovery projects through federal and state sources as well as contributions from local businesses and the community.

The only thing left is the removal and reconstruction of the bandstand.  The village says that project is still waiting for the remainder of Federal Emergency Management Agency funding to come in.
