Republicans will take control of Binghamton city council next month and they've announced their choices to fill two key government positions.

They have selected Leighton Rogers to be city clerk and Leana Testani to serve as deputy clerk.

The appointments were announced on Friday.

Rogers has been serving as an administrative assistant in the office of Broome County Executive Debra Preston. He previously had held internship positions in the office of state Senator Thomas Libous and the Broome County Legislature.

Testani is a recent graduate of Binghamton University's College of Community and Public Affairs. As a graduate assistant, she worked in the school's Office of Alcohol and Drugs Programs and Services.

Rogers resides in the city of Binghamton. A news release from council Republicans indicates Testani is in the process of moving into the city.

Rogers will succeed City Clerk Joseph Merill and Testani will succeed Deputy Clerk Lai Huynh.

The appointments are to take effect on January 1.
