The Town of Newark Valley is continuing efforts to repair damage caused by flash-flooding that occurred several weeks ago.

Town highway superintendent Charles Meade said the repair work will result in a road closure August 18.

Meade said Newark Valley-Maine Road will be closed from Settle Road to Brook Street from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Traffic will be detoured while the work is underway.

Crews plan to replace a large crossover pipe that was damaged at the Irishtown Road intersection. Meade said the pipe - which is ten-and-a-half feet long and seven feet wide - cost about $18,000.

The highway superintendent said the work might be completed by late Tuesday afternoon, allowing the roadway to return to service earlier than scheduled.

Meade said total damage costs from the recent flash flooding have been estimated at about $100,000.
