A new face in the New York State Senate is getting acclimated this week as the Republican majority lines up its priority issues for the upcoming year.

Former Broome County Undersheriff, Fred Akshar won the 52nd Senate seat and was sworn in on election night.  He replaces long-time Republican Senator Thomas Libous, who resigned after being convicted of lying to the FBI.

Libous is to be sentenced later this month.

Republican Senators lead by John Flanagan of Long Island were planning a November 10 meeting in Albany while the Democrats controlling the Assembly plan to meet November 17.
