New York State agencies and broadcasters are planning to publicize an emergency alert system for cell phones.

The state police and representatives of several organizations are to announce details of the system Thursday.

The New York State Broadcasters Association will participate in the program.

The AMBER Alert partners will describe an automated alert system available on most cell phones.

AMBER alerts are activated in the most serious child abduction cases. They've been utilized for more than a decade.

The new notification system is expected to have a larger reach and will be customizable.
