New York State American Legion Commander Kenneth Governor says the American Legion's Department of New York is reinvigorating its core mission to serve men and women in uniform, veterans and families, community and nation.

Governor made the comments at a testimonial dinner at John Handte American Legion Post 89 in Vestal November 5th.

Prior to the dinner, the Commander paid his respects to veterans at the Walk of Heroes at the Veterans Memorial Park in Endicott. Following that, Governor honored veteran Barbara Beebe of John F. Johnson American Legion Post 1700 in Endicott with the Department Commander's Award of Excellence.

In honoring Beebe, The Commander noted she has held many offices in her post and District, including commanding both and recently testified before the New York State Assembly on the 'suicide epidemic' among veterans.
