Trout and salmon fishing season opens in New York State on April Fool's Day.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says hundreds of thousands of pounds of fish have been released to stock the state's waterways.

The DEC had several events scheduled around the state to mark the opening of fishing season while reminding anglers to make sure they have all required licenses and practice safety around the water.

Fishing season for trout opened in some counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania over the weekend. The season for the rest of the Keystone State starts April 13th.
