As 4th of July celebrations continue, some of them starting last weekend, the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) is urging residents to leave fireworks to the professionals.

While New York last year loosened some restrictions of fireworks, many devices, including those that launch into the air, are still illegal. New York allows some fire crackers and other devices that stay on the ground. Still, some classes of larger exploding fireworks are illegal.

Legal sparklers, meanwhile, cause nearly 25% of all fireworks related emergency room visits according to the National Fire Protection Association.  That is the most of any type of fireworks-like devices sending people to the hospital.
