The New York Mets acquired slugging outfielder Yeonis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers just before the trading deadline Friday afternoon.  The deal involved one current Binghamton Mets pitcher and another who was promoted to Triple-A from Binghamton just before the All-Star break.

Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa head to the Detroit organization.  Both are considered prime prospects to reach the Major Leagues.  Fulmer has been outstanding with the B-Mets compiling a 6-2 record with a 1.88 ERA.  Cessa was 7-4 in Binghamton before his promotion and had a 7-4 record with an ERA of 2.56.

Cespedes can give New York a big boost.  He is batting .293 with 18 home runs and 71 RBI's.  Run production has been a big issue for the parent Mets throughout the season. Cespedes has the power to ignite the offense and coupled with outstanding pitching the deal is hoped to keep New York in the post-season hunt down the stretch.
